I won't be able to comment on how the typing is until I use it for a few weeks. I already have the bluetooth keyboard (I use it with my desktop). So, if I need to do heavy typing when I am traveling, I'll probably take that with me.

I'm getting the 3G version which arrives at the end of the month. For me, it didn't make much sense to get the Wifi only model because I spend so much of my time outside of my apartment. I should have a review up in late April to early May, depending on when Apple officially releases the 3G iPad.

I have used the Wifi model. It is very slick and extremely impressive. But I can't put that one through the same paces as the 3G for my life.

So, when will you be testing your iPad? My husband and I have been thinking about making a purchase, but honestly, I'm not really sure what it is. Very interested in the results of the your hand-on research,

Here's one thing I'm really curious about: the typing experience. I tried it out over the weekend (my mom got one) and almost instinctively found myself typing with my left thumb and right hand (simultaneously).

It seems ergonomically awkward to have your screen and keyboard in the same place, which is partially why I can't imagine myself replacing my laptop with an iPad right now (I blog a lot and feel like I'd also have to invest in a good chiropractor for things to work).

Yes I do. I live with my fiancee. We often sit in the couch together with our laptops, reading stories, looking at photos, etc and sharing what we're doing. It's a bit unwieldy to pass a laptop around. I think the iPad should be a more social device for my household than laptops are.

I think the iPad will be especially good for passing around photos. I was just at my parents and my Mom and her friends were looking at baby photos of my nephew with my laptop. It wasn't the best experience to pass my laptop around. An iPad would have been perfect.

Pat, do you have a significant other? If so, I'm curious how the iPad will work in social situations. For instance, will you forego pulling out the iPad or the iPhone when checking mail/facebook/twitter in the company of others.

Most of the benefits for the iPad I've heard are very focused on "alone" activities (reading, single-player games, single-person movie watching, etc). I'm curious whether the form factor of the iPad will encourage more passing around of the device or tight-grasp as with computers and the iPhone.
