Our paper is in a small market (about 50,000) where high school sports are huge, especially football. However the sports page on our website doesn't do as well as other sections. Not surprising since we post sports stories once a day. And - get this - since we don't publish on Saturdays, news about Friday night's games aren't posted until late Saturday. I'm hoping to get reporters to post updates (scores, highlights) from the games via SMS. But a bigger part will be to incorporate some of the ideas you've spelled out here. Especially creating relationships with coaches so that we can use their photos, have their staff post stats, etc. and allow us more in-depth coverage of the these teams. This post has inspired me. Thanks.

This sounds like a great idea! This year, we've added the Garage to help you improve your application's chance at winning. If you enter at http://garage.newschallenge.org, our past winners will help you shape your application to be its best this year.

Good luck!
