Back in Portugal, online journalism was received as a salvation for the increasing number of journalism graduates who were flooding the work market. Every newspaper got a website, posted news and then, bam!, lay-offs began and people were left with nothing.
Blogs back home associated with the press are written by people who are prominent polititians or news commentators whose opinions are already widespread. The mass of journalists that got laid off have no idea where to start.
I'm learning a lot from your blog, and from other sources, and I'm working as a freelancer. I know that the likelihood of getting a job at a conventional newspaper is next to zero, but at least, I'm trying to make my voice and my stories heard. Let's see what happens in a year, when the economy stabilizes a bit.

The newspaper industry's unbelievable denial is what kept innovation at bay and it's just a shame. While I met some amazing, talented people when I worked at a newspaper, it was very frustrating to work with naysayers who were dead set against trying new things.
