Pat, I think you put it well “We do not — I repeat do not — make content for ourselves”. Please read this: http://markmedia.blogs.com/markmedia/2008/02/design-good-bad.html before you get angry about “Wall of News”. It’s worth thinking about, especially when you consider Sweden has a population of only 9 million. Stats don’t lie! Maybe “Wall of news” is the way to go?

I clicked on AngryJournalist the other day, and the most recent post sounded some well-worn cranky-man themes and used the phrase “design dolts.” OK, maybe the site doesn’t want real names, but this guy’s identity couldn’t have been more obvious if he’d posted his DNA.

I haven’t been back.

Does anyone remember Newsmait? That ended in tears. At least this has no real names involved. Score one for anonymity?

The categories seem to be, in no particular order:

Clueless bosses.
Clueless readers.
Irritating co-workers.
Poor equipment.
Covering boring small-town stuff.
Too much online work without more money or time.

Erica, I think that you’ll find one of the top things wrong with journalism is journalists.

AngryJournalist.com only confirms that.

There are plenty of good journalists out there who want to make a difference, but there are also a lot of bad journalists who are unwilling to change in the face of a rapidly changing marketplace.

I’m with Erica, a little of those Angry Journalist posts goes a long way. It’s one of the most fascinating times in journalism in a century and if I’m mad at anything, it’s that I started four decades ago and haven’t a lot more time to be part of the changes. Broken industries can be repaired, Erica.

I’m glad someone’s taken the time to go through some of those AngryJournalist posts! You have much more patience than I did.

At first I was amused, even sympathetic in that “been there” kind of way, with some of the posts. Then came the eye-rolling “I can’t believe you said that” phase. Then I started running in to post after post that was so blatently wrong in its summation of journalism or what’s right/what’s wrong or was just plain dumb that I couldn’t read anymore. I’m disappointed with many of our peers. And they wonder why our industry is broken?
